This morning we left Bryce with a loose plan to take the scenic route round Utah to Arches. To be fair there is not a straight route, but 10hrs later we're still in the car after a gas station dinner caused by a stunning lack of civilization & restaurants. We hiked to Calf Creek Falls in Grand Staircase Escalante Natl Park &saw Capitol Reef Natl Park the typical tourist way from the car on a scenic drive(pic). I cannot describe or show enough photos of the variety of very large rock features we passed by today. Every color, shape, particle size, the variety was astounding. We joked at the crest of each hill about what the next view was, but it was always very different! A's favorite part was the Moki Dugway a GRAVEL 10%grade route down the plateau overlooking Monument Valley (rec by friendly Lamont at the Shell in Hanksville). The only thing keeping us from death was a 4in mound of
gravel at the edge of the narrow road. We'll get to Arches in the dark so tmw will be a surprise.
