beasting Zion's trails -Angel's Landing & Beyond

It's interesting to see who makes the effort to get the 6am shuttle. We start coffee in hand& slowly pass all but the sportiest. Angel's Landing is a small steep mountain joined to the rest by a narrow pass. The upper trail is lined with chains because of the precipitous drop on 1or both sides. It's 5.4 miles winding up the mountain with the scary bit only the last half mile. It was not as scary as I thought it was going to be &the worst was the first bit with the chains bc of the uneven sandstone- further along it was steeper with more of a drop, but the sandstone was flat& easier to navigate. Bc we made it on the first bus there were few people crowding the trail or the top& the sun had not yet reached the valley. Leaving from the saddle, we also took the West Rim Trail to a spring. It was only 3miles, but took forever &I wouldn't have made it if a 7yr old hadn't pointed 600ft above&
said it's just up there. After dipping my shirt in the spring I felt rejuvenated& hiked down. 11.4mi
