adelaide in the rain

i slept in today - until 830- shocking! i had a cup of coffee and caught a bus into the CBD of adelaide. first i walked into the botanical gardens and somehow ended up at the wine center of australia. not a bad way to start your day. then it started to rain and it rained all day. i continued to walk and walk. i considered myself lucky to take artistic pictures of roses with water droplets on them.

after the botanical gardens, i browsed the museum of art and then the museum of southern australia. both were interesting and took quite a bit of time to explore. my favorite peice of art was a 40 meter painting tracing the coastline of tasmania - basically looking like you were staring in - but from the entire circumference - that is why it was 40 meters. the other museum had extensive artifacts from both aboriginal australia and melanesian/polynesian cultures. i went to the central markets and browsed all the meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and eateries. i had my first lammington which is an australian yellow cake covered in chocolate and coconut. then i went to the r-something mall to look around and to meet dan for dinner.

so exciting plans this evening are a shower and my book. tomorrow i am taking a tour of barossa valley - a famous southern australian wine region. still working on my plans for the rest of my time in aussie.

  1. Hey Kim,
Seems like you're having a kickass time down there, and I think that's just great. Way to go. FYI-- I know from personal experience that there are also comfortable sleeping places to spend the night in the Brisbane airport.... If you ever need.
    Cheers mate!

  2. OK 2 things:

    1. i hope you bring me a lammington.

    2. it amuses me that "browsing meats" is a recreational activity.
