southern scenic route and the catlin coast

so what do you do when you have all day to get somewhere? take the scenic route.

and so i did. it rained off and on all day, BUT i did see about five rainbows and some of them were really brilliant. so anyway, mostly driving around through green sheep pastures and along rocky coasts.

highlights -
-cathedral caves - two entrances that connect in the rear and only accessible at low tide
-slope point - the furthest south point on the south island - 20 min hike through a sheep pasture
- fossilized trees along the coast - with optional seal spotting and waves crashing into kelp
-nugget point lighthouse with three rainbows - and more seal spotting - at this location you can see elephant seals, hooker seals, and fur seals all sharing one beach... i didnt see the elephant seals, but the others were there.
-random sign to a whale fossil - that ended up being 6k off the main road and through a sheep pasture.

so did you get the sheep pasture theme? they export most of it. i just wonder to where bc i dont remember it being all that common in the states. and buying wool things here you think would be cheaper... but it is not.

  1. hmm. I wonder where Sheep is a big import. I guess all those Americans eating Leg of Lamb for the holidays are enjoying some of Aussie too.
