so i successfully backpacked 32.5 miles of the most spectacular great walks in new zealand. and magically my wishes for good weaether were heard. we had four days of brilliant sunshine and blue skies - unheard of on a track where you often walk through a meter or two of water - and i saw lll the places where that walking through water could take place... and i am happy to not have done it. some say that i may have missed out on some waterfalls but beleive me there were plenty.
so i am couchsurfing in pukerau on a slow dial up computer so i will keep it brief.
higlights
-seeing blue ducks and ducklings - the first of the season
-actually making it through
-mackinnon pass over the top
-seeing wekas and keas (native birds)
-so many beautiful waterfalls
-watching avalanches on the mountain sides above us
-my first glow worms
-napping on a sandfly free beach after hiking 10 miles(and beleive me keeping clear of the sandflies is important they dont itch the first day - but man i am still scratching)
-a saved chocolate bar on day three (good idea!)
anyway- i'll tell you more when i have highspeed. two days here in pukerau and then south to stewart island for four days - cheers!
