you know i was in college on long island when the planes hit the world trade center. it was really scary. that's all there was on every tv channel and there were kids and faculty crowded around every tv in the halls and lobbies. professors had their radios playing loudly so that you could hear it in the hallways. there was no music that day on BAB. classes let out and the news was spread; some classes were canceled. if they weren't, a lot of people didn't go anyway. i didn't know anyone that could be there, but a lot of the kids at my college were from new york and everyone had moms, dads, uncles, cousins, etc, that worked in new york that they were worried about. i remember finding a subway map and hanging it up (because that was the only map i could find), because even though everyone thought they knew manhattan, some people just weren't sure where their families worked in relation to where the disaster was. it eased a few minds.
i don't know how things went here in virginia, but on long island everyone was ready to help in whatever way they could and that meant a lot to me despite the face that i did not need help. i may have forgotten what today's date was (a downfall of not having a job), but i will never forget september 11th.
