I hosted my first couch surfers - Dan and Matt. They are biking across America - from coast to coast to raise money for the Mennonite Disaster Services - and somehow Mineral was on their route. I checked the website - there is no mention of them, but you can still donate money.
They rode 100 miles or so before arriving here ýesterday so they were pretty tired... but not too tired to snap some pics in the giant chair and take in mom's lovely flowers. i took them on the driving tour of mineral and louisa -i don't think they are used to an area so rural - and to roma's for dinner. matt ate a whole pizza! (the legend begins)
in the morning i took them to joe's for the hungry man breakfast and for them a trial of biscuits and gravy (this was my third consecutive breakfast at joe's, so i opted for joe's breakfast instead of the hungry man). dan was keen to try grits the correct southern way, but unfortunately they were out.
they filled their water bottles with some of the best water ever, collected their clean clothes, and got on the road. today they are taking 22 into charlottesville where they are couchsurfing with someone else and then heading down skyline drive into southwest virginia. they travel a lot like me - they have a general plan and that's about it. i gave them kelley's number for when they travel through arizona. best of luck to them!

3 consecutive breakfasts at joe's ... i am SO jealous. although huy and i just had a good discussion about southern food and he's game for a trip to cracker barrel for country fried steak, fried okra & turnip greens. yummy. thanks to massive chain restaurants, i can have a home-cooked meal 2400 miles from home! (and by home-cooked, i mean cooked by joe. we all know nothing but brownies gets cooked at home!)
ReplyDeleteoh...we all know that is NOT true...there are other things cooked at home! LMAO i don't recall any starving children in my home, but at this point, i bet joe does more cooking in one day than i do in a year! :-) i did my time...and maybe, someday, i will do my time again. until then, i will continue to enjoy joe's cooking too!
ReplyDeletethey were nice boys..and a nice start to couch surfing in mineral...and someone from the plant saw them riding down route 22...so i know they are on their way!
How on earth did you meet couch surfers?
