so i thought i ought to write about the boy i have been on five dates with. FIVE. and there are more coming. it's really nice actually. i cannot even keep track of the number of first dates i have gone on that never made it to number 2.
he lives a couple of counties away (north and still rural), is from out of state and sort of fell into va, teaches high school, is the kind of teacher i would be pals with, likes country roads and doesn't mind driving an hour, and sees the humor in random things (like the abandoned car with a white feather boa expressing its distress). we met at a diner in culpeper the first time and went to the book fair bc it was raining and i really wanted to do that and he had never been. then we met in culpeper, ate thai, and walked through the park... it has an extensive paved trail and a random muddy one through the scrubby stuff. number three was to orange, dinner and walk around town to discover a random fountain. i think we sat by the fountain for like three hours talking (and also trying to figure out the pattern of the jets (yes it is that difficult)). number four was the big town of gordonsville, pizza and walking around town, swinging on the swings, ice cream at tastee freez and trying to watch the end of a little league game. number five was a hike to a waterfall (which sucked! i picked a bad one... nice hike, boring waterfall) and dinner at a tiny pizza place in sperryville with a sign that read "max occupancy ten because otherwise it would be a little awkward."
what i have learned is that i have no idea how long it takes to get to any of these places even though i know they are just right up the road. even if i did, i don't think it makes a difference because it is entirely dependent on who you get stuck behind. Who knew there was so much interesting stuff to walk around and poke at and see in these little towns? And good places to eat!
its kind of weird not going to richmond or charlottesville, but also sort of refreshing and interesting. Not a lot of options, but also a lot of new things to try. Well a few things to try. The list of places to eat in all the place combined is not large, but there is totally a rollerskating rink and a bowling alley in culpeper that are on my list for potential future dates. AHAHAHA rollerskating. :)

i bet there are more choices than you realize in those small towns.
ReplyDeleteKim, this all sounds so wonderful! It reminds me of when Keegan and I were first dating and trying to come up with interesting things to do rather than the standard "dinner and a movie." It was such a great time! We did get to go roller skating once when I visited him in Charleston, SC, and someone at the rink asked us if we were on our honeymoon. I hope you guys will look that happy when you go roller skating together. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the sign at that restaurant in Sperryville cracks me up. Thanks for sharing!
