Wedding preparations day 2

Thursday started off relatively slow. Dad and I headed off to the store to pick up flowers for Karrie's bouquet and necessary items like cocoa (for chocolate cakes!), salt, pepper, and more aluminum pans for prepared food. I communicated the selection of flowers via picture text message to Karrie and wondered how things were done before cell phones were so popular. We also checked the availability of some other items to be picked up Friday or Saturday (depending on fridge space).

Once back home we had to enjoy the weather outside while the floors finished drying. Once back in the kitchen, work could not begin until lunch was served. The previous evening Dad had sent James to the store to get a good deal on chicken and told him we needed four breasts, but they are probably going to come in packages of 3, so get 6 and I'll make chicken salad out of the rest. Well James likes chicken salad, so when they came in packages of 5, he of course picked up 10.... so there is plenty of yummy chicken salad. Well there was...

Directly after lunch, things got busy. With two stand mixers in action, Karrie iced cakes, baked cakes, cooled cakes, iced cakes, and repeated. It's hard maneuvering around them in the fridge... and hopefully we will not damage them too much before the party.

Dad and I worked on the cole slaw which involved shredding the cabbage, chopping the onions, and mixing the sauce. I did the dishes at least every hour as spatulas, mixing bowls, and other things needed to be washed for reuse.. I certainly earned my keep.

Mixing 30 lbs of coleslaw required the use of the big orange tub again... and it was a little dicey as to whether we could mix it and not have it overflowing.... somehow we didn't make too much of a mess. Then the whole sauce discussion began... was there enough? How should we mix it? It was decided to bag it (not enough room in the fridge for trays) and then sauce it in the bags. And although Dad didn't think there was enough sauce... I think in the end, it all worked out perfectly.

Dad also had to heat up the chicken barbecue and sauced it which took some time. (and also mixed in the bog orange tub)

Mom and Kelley arrived in the afternoon and hilarity ensued. Between planning for Karrie's wedding and talking about about the Bean inside Kelley... we certainly got an ab workout.

We got to see recent sonogram pictures of the Bean. Kelley does not want an epidural because she does not want to have the mishap of pooping herself during labor (Who knew this was a problem? Everyone but me!) There was a penis drawing contest to describe the difference between circumcised and uncircumcised boys (in regards to if the Bean is a boy) and a nice discussion about what to name the Bean when it arrives. Kelley and Aaron have been discussing a variety of choices and like the odd ones. The house favorite is Rodo or Roto... so its name will be Rodo-Ruda. :) I like Romela or Romel. Karrie likes old fashioned names like ones from the Bible, but appreciates Aaron's choice of Franzl (rhymes with Hansel (as in Hansel and Gretel) which Kelley vetoes). Kelley and Aaron still have plenty of time to pick one out... and really it doesn't matter what we think.

However Karrie and James have less time before the wedding and party... the list of things to do is getting shorter and shorter though.
