after pancakes, brendan showed me where bubble gum alley was - the weird attraction for SLO. i guess i expected it to be more bright and cheery but i dont know why - old gum would get pretty crusty. anyway - the amount of gum covering the alley is impressive and some of the art within was interesting. i added my gum in a bare-ish patch, checked out the mission, said my farewells to brendan and headed south.
pismo beach is just south of SLO so i checked in again on the butterfly grove and was pleasantly surprised by more butterflies and they were much more active.
next stop - buellton for famous split pea soup. there are a lot of billboards for it (not as many as south of the border) and once there i was entertained with art, suished pennies, and a board i could stick my head through. and the soup was really excellent too.
after that i made a beeline for LA to meet wang in time to make it to frisbee. wang plays frisbee under the hollywood sign in a no-leash dog park full of happy dogs and there semi-wealthy, probably in the entertainment business owners. i read through my roadtrip book, wrote some postcards, played with some doggies, and watched the game.
wang made delicious chicken pot pie and chicken noodle soup and i am full. tomorrow la brea tar pits and other nearby attractions.
by the way.. am i the only one who didnt know that hollywood and la are next door neighbors? i think so.
