bob and betty... ulterior motives?

out of curiosity, i looked up the pine trees of the san gabriel mountains to see what kind of pine tree bob and betty came from.

Common name: Coulter pine, "widow maker"

interesting. what an apt name for such a prickly pinecone. i still have stab wounds on my forearm from carrying two in my hands and one under my arm while struggling up the slope.

other interesting facts about the coulter pine is that it has the longest pine needles in the world and the heaviest cone. so possibly the heaviest and the prickliest cone. just what i need in my front seat to deter any unwanted guests. :)
