this morning aaron and i hiked the precipice trail which is often closed this time of year because of nesting peregrine falcons (they nested but no chicks). this is a 'strenuous ladder' hike with two signs at the bottom warning us we needed to be fit and properly equipped & that people have died on this trail. the hype is true. in many places there are big boulders to pull yourself over & iron rungs to climb otherwise unscaleable rock faces & iron bars in places with scary precarious footing or nothing to hold on to. aaron thought it was awesome & i thought it was kind of scary. i am so glad there is another way down. none of it was dangerous if you were careful & paid attention, but still heart-stopping. after leisurely coming down champlain south we drove the shore road to beehive- basically a mini version of precipice, but a bit tamer. we finished with a loop down to a pond called
the bowl. in town for internet, reservations, & lunch and a easy peasy afternoon hike is planned.
