Mel proceeded to make her boston cream pie and I surfed the net looking up some activities for the upcoming days. Then we headed to Henry Cowell State Park - a nearby Redwood Grove. There are lots of trail heads from the windy canyon road, but without a reliable map (the ones online suck) we decided to pay to enter to get a decent map - which we then had to pay for. It would be hard to know you were in a canyon unless you really looked between the giant trees to see how far downhill the creek was.
The park is beautiful, but not actually that big... we quickly realized that when we looked at the scale of the map. We hiked through stands of large redwoods and uphill into a new ecosystem that the name escapes me to an observation deck with views of the ocean you can see from Mel's front yard. On the way up we found some random sewer drains way uphill? what the heck do you need those in the middle of a park for? We then hiked back down, ate a picnic lunch, and headed home.
Mel finished her boston cream pie and then we went downtown to walk around and window shop at the hippie stores. After a nice walk we came home to be domestic homebodies, making dinner, watching tv, and soon to bed. We are tired.
